How to choose the right ring size?
There are several ways to select a ring of the perfect size. Always keep these few important notions in mind:
- Poland uses the European measure numbering system (see: size table below).
- Weather conditions, i.e.high or low temperature, results in changes to finger sizes. During intense heat fingers may even become 1 size larger than normal.
- Fingers react to temperature. Measurements should be taken when fingers are warm, as they shrink when they are cold.
- Hands are at their largest by the end of the day – this is the best time to measure finger sizes.
- If the measurement falls between two sizes – choose the larger size.
- The left hand finger size will be different from the same finger on the right hand.
- Wedding and engagement rings, according to Polish tradition, are worn on the ring finger of the right hand (fourth finger from the thumb).
- Remember, that rings should be able to slide over the finger joint (knuckle) with slight resistance.
- In case of broad, massive rings and bands (7-11 mm in width), for the purpose of later comfort it is recommended to choose a ring even a size larger.
- Exact measurement of the finger is very important, as 1 size means a 0,33 mm difference in the ring’s diameter.
Calipers
If you have a ring or band which fits your finger size – measure its inner diameter with calipers. It is not recommended to use calipers to measure the finger directly – the size may turn out to be inaccurate. Please remember that the measured ring or band must be perfectly round, not deformed. Check the table below to see which size is assigned to the diameter of the measured ring (see: European system!). This is the size in which you should order the ring.
Paper strip
Use a sheet of paper to make a strip in the width of the ring and try to put it on your finger as you would your ring. When you achieve the right size, cut the strip of paper and measure its length. Calculate the correct size using the formula: length of strip (mm) ÷ 3.14 = diameter (mm)
Select your size by comparing the calculated result to the table of sizes below.
At the jeweler’s
If you wish to correctly select the ring size and confirm the measurements achieved using the methods above – visit your nearest jeweler, who has all kinds of measurement circles available. Provide the size measured that way when placing your order.
